Born in Boston, he was a general surgeon and obstetrician specializing in sports medicine, 19-time Hawaii Ironman Championships competitor, Ultraman and Lavaman competitor, paddler with Kai O Pua Canoe Club and a U.S. Air Force veteran. Born in Hilo, he was a retired construction laborer for numerous companies and former longshore fisherman for numerous Okinawan boats on Oahu. Born in Pepeekeo, he was a retired emergency medical technician and ambulance driver with the former Hilo Hospital, retired sergeant with the Hawaii Army National Guard and member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
